Milwaukee-area basketball coach Brandon Mattox opens up about his battle with depression
Brandon Mattox said he jokingly referred to himself as “functioning depressed.”
It wasn't a condition easily noticed by friends. He’s always been outgoing, with an uncommon patience that serves him as a special education teacher and a basketball coach. He’s easy to talk to and prides himself on being a leader.
“Nobody around me had a clue,” he said. “Some of my closest friends were like, ‘Why didn’t you say something, why didn’t you come to me with this?’ ... I didn’t feel like it would have been successful.
